“There has no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above that you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)

Escaping may mean literally escaping, as Joseph did when the wife of Potiphar (an officer of Pharaoh) grabbed his cloak and said “Lie with me.” So much for subtlety! Joseph “left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran outside” (Genesis 39: 12). He made a conscious decision not to cross any boundaries.

On the contrary, King David had the object of his temptation delivered right to him. “The woman was very beautiful to look upon” and David began to inquire about her. The woman was Bathsheba and “David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her” (2 Samuel 11 verses 2 and 4). David’s poor judgment to cross that line led to all sorts of problems before he finally expressed the wrenching repentance in Psalm 51.

Know, recognize and never cross the boundaries. Whenever possible, avoid them completely to prevent getting yourself into any compromising situations. It is better to run while the escape hatch is standing open, rather than fumble with locks, prying and pulling the door when it is already too late.
